Bobby Burns Cocktail Recipe

The Bobby Burns is a delightful Scotch-based cocktail that offers a touch of herbal sweetness and complexity. Here's what you'll need to create this timeless drink:

1 ounce blended Scotch whiskey (ideally 12-year-old)

1 ounce sweet vermouth (such as Noilly Prat rouge)

½ ounce Bénédictine (herbal liqueur)

Lemon twist (for garnish)

Ballantine’s 12yr Blended Scotch Whisky – 750 ML

Fill a mixing glass with ice and let it sit for a minute. Discard the ice water to ensure your glass is properly chilled.

Add the blended Scotch whisky, sweet vermouth, and Bénédictine to the mixing glass.

Stir gently with a bar spoon for about 20 seconds to chill and dilute the drink. Don't over-stir, as this can make it watery.

Strain the concoction into a chilled cocktail glass (like a coupe or martini glass).

Express the oils from a lemon twist over the drink and garnish with the twist.

While a 12-year-old blended Scotch is recommended, feel free to experiment with different types of Scotch to find your preferred flavor profile.

If you don't have Bénédictine, you can substitute it with an equal amount of Drambuie (a Scotch-based liqueur with honey). However, Bénédictine offers a unique herbal character that complements the Scotch beautifully.

Freshly squeezed lemon juice (around ¼ ounce) can be used in place of the lemon twist for a slightly tart variation.

Adjust the amount of sweet vermouth to your taste preference. For a drier drink, use a bit less vermouth.

The Bobby Burns is a well-balanced cocktail that showcases the smooth and rich notes of Scotch whisky, accented by the sweetness of vermouth and the herbal complexity of Bénédictine. Enjoy this delightful drink responsibly and explore different variations to discover your perfect Bobby Burns!
