Smoke Show: A Smoky and Savory Cocktail Adventure

The Smoke Show cocktail is a modern masterpiece that takes your taste buds on a smoky and savory adventure.  This unique drink combines earthy mezcal with herbal liqueurs and citrus, resulting in a complex and intriguing flavor profile.

2 ounces mezcal (Espadin mezcal is a popular choice, but feel free to experiment with other varieties)

¾ ounce Cynar (artichoke-based liqueur)

¾ ounce Green Chartreuse (herbal liqueur)

½ ounce fresh lemon juice

½ ounce simple syrup

1 egg white (optional, for a richer texture)

Garnish: Freshly grated cinnamon

Ensure all liquids are chilled for the best result. If making your own simple syrup, prepare it in advance.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the mezcal, Cynar, Green Chartreuse, lemon juice, simple syrup, and egg white (if using). Shake vigorously for about 20 seconds to thoroughly chill and combine the ingredients. The egg white (optional) creates a frothier texture.

For a smoother texture, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer first, then again through a Hawthorne strainer into a chilled coupe glass.

For an extra smoky experience, use a handheld smoker to gently infuse the cocktail with smoke before garnishing. You can find cocktail smokers online or at some specialty kitchenware stores.

Grate fresh cinnamon over the top of the drink for a touch of warmth and visual appeal. Enjoy your Smoke Show!

Mezcal, a smoky spirit made from agave, is the star of this show. Espadin varietals offer a good balance of smoke and earthiness. Experiment with different mezcals to explore the range of smoky flavors.

Cynar and Green Chartreuse add layers of herbal complexity to the drink. Cynar brings a bittersweet artichoke character, while Green Chartreuse offers a blend of 130 herbs and botanicals.

Fresh lemon juice adds a touch of tartness that balances the smokiness and sweetness of the other ingredients.

Simple syrup balances the tart and bitter notes. Adjust the amount to your preference.

Adding an egg white creates a frothier texture in the drink. If you're vegan or have egg allergies, simply omit it.

Using a cocktail smoker adds a dramatic touch and enhances the smoky experience. Experiment with different wood chips for the smoke infusion, like applewood or cherrywood.

The Smoke Show cocktail is a conversation starter and a delightful exploration of smoky and savory flavors.  So next time you're looking for a unique and adventurous drink, give the Smoke Show a try! Remember, drink responsibly and savor the smoky journey.
